Doom's Day came and went. Nothing changed.
I was up at 2:45am this morning. Had to catch my early flight in Jaketown. One again mad hustle to the bus station for hour long ride. Jakarta still sucks. This is the beginning of my three weeks vacation. I've conveniently situated it around the Xmas/NY holiday to maximize absence. If this doen't turn out Indonesia is a complete bust.
Delays at both airports. My arrival on Flores Island is nearly five hours later than expected. No matter. Nobody expecting me. My only intension for today is to hash out an itinerary and catch up on some sleep. There is but one landing strip to receive us in Labuan Bajo upon our arrival. Charming and quaint. I'm digging the rural vibe.
A man named Michael taxis me to a cozy hotel overlooking the coast. Turns out he's a sophisticated tour operator with an intriguing plan in mind, exactly what I need. His employee, Alexy, is to be my driver and tour guide for the next week as we traverse Flores overland visiting all the most important sites. Caves, waterfalls, volcanoes, and hot springs are promised along with a visit to a thriving monolith culture and a palm liquor production village. Sounds exciting.
On the back burner is an island hopping tour to include some of the (allegedly) best snorkeling on earth and a trek through Dragon Territory! Afterwards a possible return through Lombok and Bali. We'll see how this goes. Can't wait to tell y'all about the finest details. Peace!
